Dr Orlin Filipov MD PhD

Dr Orlin Filipov has specialised in orthopaedics for over 18 years, working in Bulgaria and around the World. He has written many orthopaedic studies which have been published in the top-ranked specialist journals internationally, and has presented at more than 20 international orthopaedic conferences.

He is a certified specialist in total hip and knee replacement, with a particular interest in endoprosthesis. He also specialises in reconstruction, leg lengthening, and fracture treatment.

Dr Filipov is a member of five international orthopaedic associations; AAOS (American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons); AO Trauma; SICOT (Société Internationale de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie); Küntscher society; FFN (Fragility fracture network), as well as the Bulgarian professional organisation БОТА.

He has developed and pioneered an innovative surgical technique in total hip replacement that involves minimal blood loss, and no blood transfusions. He has been using this ground-breaking technique for five years now, and patients have come to Vitosha Hospital from all over Europe to benefit from it.

His latest book is an orthopaedic surgical manual called “Surgical Treatment of Femoral Neck Fractures”, and has been published by Nova Science Publishers in the United States.

Dr Filipov has developed a new and highly effective method for treatment of femoral neck fractures – the BDSF method. It has been adopted internationally  – in India, Egypt, the USA, Switzerland and Norway.

Dr Filipov speaks fluent English, as well as Russian, French and Serbian.​
